Get Pregnant Via IVF

IVF stands for in-vitro fertilization and was first put into successful use in 1978. It involves fertilising a harvested human egg in a laboratory and then placing the fertilised egg in the uterus. These days, it is quite common for couples who are having trouble getting pregnant to opt for IVF as part of their infertility treatment. There have been many hundreds of thousands of successful IVF pregnancies that have resulted in the birth of a healthy baby. Whether you’re considering IVF treatment or are simply curious about the same, here are is how the treatment is administered:

IVF Procedure:

The in-vitro fertilization procedure consists of various steps. It is essential that each step is carried out with care. Here is a step-by-step guide to the procedure:

Step 1 – Hormone Therapy

The ovaries of a healthy and fertile female with a regular menstrual cycle release one egg every cycle. The hormone therapy that is administered during the IVF process leads to the release of more eggs. Women undergoing the hormone therapy need to visit the IVF clinicregularly for regular check-ups. The hormones can cause a lot of changes in the woman’s body. Weight gain is one of the most common side effects of the therapy. If you are going for such a treatment, ensure that you speak to your doctor about any and all side -effects that you may encounter.

Step 2 – Egg Harvesting

Egg harvesting is the process of retrieving the eggs that have been released. The progress of the release is carefully monitored via ultrasound on a regular basis. Once the egg is released, it needs to be retrieved. This is done through a simple procedure. The eggs need to be retrieved successfully for the treatment to continue.

Step 3 – Insemination and Fertilization

Once the eggs have been retrieved, the husband or male partner needs to provide the IVF clinic with his semen. Whether they are IVF centers in Bangalore, Chennai or Hyderabad, all clinics will have done prior tests to check for sperm count and motility. Once it has been determined that the sperm are healthy enough to facilitate an IVF pregnancy, only then is the treatment taken forward. The sperm collected is then introduced to the harvested eggs in petri dishes, to fertilize the egg. This fertilization process takes anywhere between 2-5 days.

Step 4 – Embryo Implantation

Once the egg has been fertilised, an embryo is formed. This embryo consists of a mass of cells and is the very beginning of your future child. A healthy embryo is selected and reinserted into the woman’s uterus. Once inside, it needs to attach itself to the uterus in order to grow into a foetus and eventual baby. There is always a chance that the embryo does not latch onto the uterus. In such cases, the treatment procedure needs to be repeated all over again.
